How to handle Latin words in essays.

Beware of using Latin terms, unless you know what you are doing.

In fact, you know a lot of Latin already from English:

Some words end in -us, like radius.  Their plural is often in -i (radii),

Some words end in -a, like vetebra.  Their plural is often in -ae (vetebrae),

Some words end in -um, like datum, and agendum.  Their plural often ends in -a.  You know these plurals better than the singular (data, agenda),

So be careful in essays.
    Balneum has the plural balnea.
    Therma  has the plural thermae.

But it's best just to use the forms you are really certain of.

There are other patterns as well, but they are more complex

Don't try to make plurals of "novus homo".  Keep the sentence singular.
Don't try to make a singular from "equites".  Say "one of the equites"

Make sure you answer the actual question
